Introducing EDDA

There’s a massive cold front rolling in and I’ve listened to Björk’s ‘Utopia’ twice through so it feels like as good a time as any to announce my new saxo/flute/DJ venture. It’s called EDDA and the concept is basically me improvising on saxophone and flute over a variety of deep-house, down-tempo, chill-out, and dub music. (Basically any genre with a hyphen in it.)

I’ve been developing this project since the beginning of the summer and it’s really grown into something cool. I’ve curated a groovy and fresh catalog of tracks to work with. My stuff is specifically designed for chill-out vibes, though I definitely get into deep-house many evenings.

This coming Saturday, I’ll be playing at Thai Lanna in Canton, OH from 7.30-9.30pm. Tickets are $25 and it includes a three-course meal of delicious Thai food. Send me a message if you want more info!

There are a lot of guys doing this sort of thing with the saxophone, but I haven’t really heard anyone doing it with the flute. Also, while most people doing this sort of thing would go for a really ‘hot’ saxo sound, I’m going in the opposite direction. I’m trying to keep a cool, chilled-out aesthetic.

The name EDDA was lifted from a 13th century Icelandic book of mythology that explains the creation and coming destruction of the earth. I like it because it has a sort of all-encompassing connotation and a lot of supernatural content.
