Sanguine & Cardamom Album Review for Earshot Jazz Published

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing the upcoming release from Day Soul Exquisite titled Sanguine & Cardamom for Earshot Jazz and let me tell you, it’s a banger! The review is published in this month’s edition of the Earshot Jazz magazine and you can read it here. The first single from the record, Disentangle, is available on all streaming services now and the rest will be released in a few weeks, following their release party January 20th. I won’t say too much about the record here because I want you to read it in the actual magazine but the record is equal parts funky grooves and queer/BIPOC joy. There’s a lot to chew on over repeated listenings but it’s also a record you can throw on when you’re partying. I’m really excited for the vibrant souls in this band and grateful that I could play a small role in getting their work out there!

I’ve written about a dozen articles for Earshot over the past couple of years and they’ve all been preview articles for upcoming shows or for acts at their annual festival. (You can find some here, if you’re interested.) That means introducing the audience to who the artists are and what their careers have entailed, as well as saying a few words about their latest record and what the show will likely feature. These have been super interesting for me and have introduced me to some great newer artists like Domo Branch and Immanuel Wilkins, who just weren’t on my radar. This review of Sanguine & Cardamom was the first album review I’ve done, so that was an exciting new venture for me, and hopefully one that will continue!

Anyway, please check out Day Soul Exquisite and their EP Sanguine & Cardamom and check out Earshot Jazz. They’re doing a ton of stuff in the Pacific Northwest and are really great organisation!
